Tobacco Cards

Tobacco Cards also referred to as Cigarette cards are trading cards issued by tobacco manufacturers to help advertise cigarette brands.

The cards first hit the US market in the late 1800s cards showcasing baseball players, boxers, actors, nature, military heros and even city views.  Competing tobacco companies quickly followed suit, one being W.D. & H.O Wills of the UK.  Some of the other leading companies were…….

Most of the sets typically consisted of 25-50 related categories.  There are some cases where sets have had a higher amount of cards in the set.

THE MOST MEMORABLE TOBACCO CARDS ARE…

  • Most refer to it as “The Holy Grail”, Honus Wagner from the American Tobacco Company T206 set.  This card has sold for over $2 Million.
  • The “handless billiard player” George Sutton card from the Mecca cigarette trading cards.  This card is most notable for the fact that George Sutton was able to mater the game with such a handicap.
