How Do You Collect on a Budget?

This is the most important part of collecting. Remember, this is a hobby and it is supposed to be fun!! The last thing you want to do is get yourself in a bad financial position buying too may baseball cards. Some of the most advanced collectors have been working on their collections for over 50 years!! This is not a race, remember that. No matter how hard you try…you will never have a complete collection. Something else always comes along. A new player, a new project, or a new team. I have seen some collectors complete a certain year or set only to sell it and start over with something new.

Collection Suggestions

Here is what I suggest: Pick a dollar amount you are comfortable with each month and make a goal list. Decide what cards are in your budget and search for them. Maybe choose your favorite team one month and your favorite player the next month. Maybe pick the year you were born and try to complete that set. Generally you can get many of the commons you need for a set for pretty cheap….that’s of course unless you are looking for 1952 Topps. To complete this set, you could be looking to spend more than most people’s houses if you want high grade cards. One of the more popular ideas I see is to try and have a card from every hall of famer. This is a good, long project. You can stars cards at the end of their careers for a reasonable amount. Maybe choose eras such as 1950s Baseball Cards or 1960s Baseball Cards. No matter which direction you go; the most important thing is that you have fun with it.
