The 1952 Topps baseball card set is arguably the most iconic and sought after baseball card set. This was the first ‘true’ year of Topps cards and were produced on a larger card than we see with today’s cards. The beauty and color of this issue is unmatched in any year since. Baseballcardadvisor.com has had an opportunity to assist several clients with collections of this year. The most recognizable card is card # 311 Mickey Mantle. Even though this is his 2nd card (1951 Bowman is his first card); it is widely regarded as his rookie card. This card now regularly sells in the tens of thousands of dollars. The set consists of 407 cards. 1-310 are considered the low numbers and 311-407 considered the high numbers. The high numbers is this series are rare and command hundreds of dollars in poor condition. The high numbers were issued late in the season and rumor has it that many of the stores didn’t want to order more inventory so cases and cases were dumped in the NY harbor. Also included in the high numbers are Jackie Robinson, Eddie Mathews, Hoyt Wilhelm and several difficult Yankee and Dodger cards. Other notable cards are Willie Mays, Phil Rizzuto, Gil Hodges, and Duke Snider. Please contact us with more questions and information on 1952 Topps Baseball Cards.
